Boudain “Way of the Hoof”

It would seem, there is stoner metal, doom metal, and all this has been. Black Sabbath, of course. Down with their three albums but despite it they’re icons of this style; Crowbar etc. It seems very clear and recognizable: vocal lines, guitar riffs and rhythm-section. But despite the fact that we can confine ourselves with a dozen names, people are playing and listening to this kind of music. Why? Because this music is simple, genuine and heavy. Americans Boudain went exactly that way.

So, Boudain was formed in 2006, at Louisiana. In 2013 self-titled EP was released, and here the time came for their first longplay Way of the Hoof.

This album is full of energy; this is its main advantage. Markedly rude, dirty enough sound with harshly vocals are sum up exactly what fans are want to hear. Real good sample of the style. The songs like Neptun”, “Coda” and “Disco jimmy” are perfect illustrations to it.

But of course there is a disadvantage – it is nothing new in this album. Absolutely. I can’t even use my favorite formula “ok, this album doesn’t bring something new, but it definitely doesn’t need it”. And here is a problem: some bad feeling awakening while listening to this album. It’s called “I’ve heard this somewhere once”. It’s not plagiary, but cliché. However, adjusted for the fact that this is band’s the first album, there is a hope that it will be better later. But now the style prevails over substance. Sometimes in prejudice.
