An interview with Fred Blanchard, the guitarist of the French Death metal band, Havenless.
Hello Fred, how are you?
Hi, I’m really fine, thank you very much for this interview!
Tell me when did Havenless was founded?
Well, I’ve started to compose guitar riffs at the end of 2011 and prepared Havenless first record “Archittecture of Plague”. I’ve found musicians and recorded the EP during the summer of 2012. Reviews about this record were very good. After some changes in the line-up, we started to compose a first album.
Last year you have released the debut album,”The Crimson Lines” WormHoleDeath records. Tell me about it.
If you listened to our first EP out at the end of 2012 and our album presented by “Wormholedeath”, you had to notice certain changes in our music. We have directed our music to something more calm, more progressive and more vintage than before. It was warmly welcomed by the members of Wormholedeath that was great! We went to italy for the recording, we had a good time there ! We are all very glad about this record.
Did you receive good reviews about the album?
Yes, we can say that reviews on the Internet and webzines were very good; this album was well received by the amateurs of this kind of music for the moment in France and abroad.
Are you going to release a new album soon?
There are already 3 new compositions for the future second album. So yes, a new album is in progress, but we are at the moment all concentrated on other projects. We absolutely do not know when it will be recorded.
What are the band’s influences and what are the lyrical themes?
My personal influences (the main): Emperor, Ihsahn, Opeth, Carcass, Porcupine Tree, Bathory, Ereb Altor, Isole, Hypocrisy, Katatonia, Enslaved, The Doors, Rainbow and much Diamond). Each text tells a different theatrical history (with a dialogue sometimes) typical “thriller” in which the dramatic events (murders) occur and an entity ghostly or spectral is responsible for it!
Are there any shows confirmed for this year?
Unfortunately, we have no concerts planned at the moment because (as I said) we concentrate on other projects at the moment.
Do you have a message for Havenless fans?
I am above all very thankful for your big support in our musical experience. Even if we are at present not very active, know that we always exist and continue to create our music for your most great pleasure!
Thank you Fred, cheers!
Thank you Carla! See you!
