Nowadays, when almost everywhere sounds all kind of -core, it’s very unexpectedly and very strange to find a band that plays hard’n’heavy. Also when you realize that it is not some old band that decided to take guitars and remember good old days, but relatively “young”, there is only one question: «guys, where is your DeLorean and Marty McFly?». But the fact remains: Bad Bones are playing since 2007, and their new LP Demolition Derby is their fourth album. Fourth!

However, first things first. Bad Bones formed in 2007 in Cuneo, Italy. Four years they played trio until vocalist Max ‘Bone’ Malmerend joined the band. The current line-up is: Max Bone (vocals), SerJoe Bone (guitar, back vocals), Steve Bone (bass, back vocals) and Lele Bone (drums). Band toured a lot, played many shows and was on a cover of Italian Metal Hammer. And now the time has come for their fourth album – Demolition Derby.

As I said earlier, this is purest hard’n’heavy, played with love and respect to this style with paying due attention to details. 11 rhythmical and catchy songs, sometimes major and sometimes too mawkish, as it was in 80’s. There is no special techniques besides some solos, but it don’t really need to be. The beauty is in simplicity. And some reviewer was right about «Bad Bones would have been on MTV and the radio in heavy rotation in the 80’s and could have played side by side with any of the 80’s heavyweights» (The Dirty Room). Bluesy sound, guitar slides and precise rhythm-section – all this in abundance. Lyrics are also comply the music: the band sings about roads, fighting with themselves and, of course, love. How can it be without it?

In conclusion I must say that the only lack is the band’s merit: the music. Alas, young people of nowadays which listen or maybe playing heavy music unlikely will appreciate the charm of Bad Bones. Rather, this music will seems to them too easy and outdated – well, hard’n’heavy boom, as it seems in Demolition Derby passed more than 20 years ago, and it’s far away from modernity. «East is East, and West is West, and never the two shall meet», as Kipling said. God grant that I was wrong.

Demolition Derby will be released on December, 16 by Sliptrick Records.
