Crossplane “Backyard Frenzy”
7Hard

On their Facebook page, Essen Rockers Crossplane, who are fronted by Onkel Tom guitarist Celli,  list their interests as Black Label Society and Motörhead… well, they sound like both bands in some of their songs… but for the most part they are purveyors of stupidly catchy Metal.

The Motörhead influences are glaringly obvious on the likes of the bass heavy groove of Dance With The Devil, and ditto for the Black Label Society sounding songs. And whilst my head is nodding and my foot is tapping along to these numbers, it’s the more catchy (original) material I actually like better.

These guys can really produce the hooks when need be, especially on the opening number, Love Or Hate, and the moodier sing-along anthem that is Long Way Down. So I find it frustrating that they feel the need to rely so heavily on some of their main musical influences. Because when they stand on their own two feet, they sound like a band that can really go places.

Crossplane Session 22.05.2016
Bochum, Germany

I guess these songs can be best described as catchy Biker Metal… they have perfected that dirty (yet menacing) groove and I’m sure they’d go down well at a biker festival or similar environment, with enough about them to appeal to a more mainstream Metal audience.

At the end of the day, whichever way you want to look at it, it’s catchy as hell Rock N Roll, which is what they probably set out to produce… so nail on head well and truly hit.

This is a good fun album, sprinkled with a few anthems as well a few familiar sounding tunes. It’s out on February 24th and is well worth checking out.
