HELLRIPPER “Coagulating Darkness”
Barbarian Wrath

I’ve followed Scottish one man band, Hellripper since the 2015 debut The Manifestation of Evil dropped on Bandcamp.

The work of one man, James McBain, Hellripper is a bulletbelt wearers wet dream, mixing up the likes of Venom, Bathory and Motörhead. It’s just heads down and go for it Speed Metal, with more than a hint of early Black Metal.

So after a few splits, the aforementioned debut EP and a compilation, this is (supposedly) Hellripper’s debut full length. I stuck in the supposedly, as this is only (almost) 27 minutes long. But as most men will tell you, it’s not the size that matters…

Because this is a raucous 27 or so minutes. From the opener, Bastard of Hades to the closer, the title track, Coagulating Darkness, this is an exercise of how to create a perfect white knuckle ride of old school Metal with a big fuck off feelgood factor.

The pace is frantic, the solos just rip and this is just about faultless. Even my non-stop foot tapping spasms are loving it.. even though I have trouble keeping up.

If I forget to include this in my top 10 at the end of the year, I’ll go get my lobotomy booked for the new year.

Man, if you don’t like this, then you have no right to call yourself a Metalhead.
