Portugal’s Sacred Sin returns with three furious death metal tracks. Born Suffer Die provides a small taste of the capabilities of the group, including the return of the amazing guitar work of To Pica. With only a brief run time to work with, this hard hitting quartet takes Death Metal back to its roots.

Title track, Born Suffer Die, provides an excellent glimpse of what is to come. With devastating beats and crunchy riffs providing a backdrop to Jose Costa‘s violent growls, this track is the pure fury.

False Deceiver continues the devastation with a roaring riff that sounds like it wants to fall into a groove but simply pummels the listener instead. Guitar work really stands out here with blazing solos that will take your breath away interweaving with each other for a pretty epic result.

Cursed finishes off this incredibly brief EP with a fitting conclusion to the preceding madness. An opening riff that sounds downright evil flows into a pounding rhythm and solos are let loose to reign fire over the track.

The absolute highlight of this EP is To Pica‘s blazing guitar work and interplay with brother in arms Louis Coelho. The unbelievable speed is par for the course for any Death Metal track worth a damn, but the Iron Maiden like harmonies really set it apart.

On the down side, the EP is incredibly brief, timing in at just over eleven minutes. In that time we are not offered a whole lot of variation. I found the vocals to be a bit jarring in their placement and would have appreciated them to be mixed down closer to the rest of the band. Death Metal to me is all about the sonic assault, and these sort of broke that image for me.

With just three songs and eleven and a half minutes, there is very little else to discuss with this one. Death Metal purists will surely enjoy the bone crunching power, but if you are looking for experimentation, it may be best to look elsewhere.
