SALTATIO MORTIS “Licht und Schatten” – Best Of 2000-2014

Any band sooner or later realizes that here comes time to sum up. If there is something to sum, of course. Usually it comes in a form of “Best of…” compilation. Minstrels Saltatio Mortis for 16 years and ten albums (plus four live albums and two DVDs) made much music material, which resulted in double album Licht Und Schatten – Best of 2000-2014.
Saltatio Mortis (latin – «Dance of Death») is one of the famous bands in their genre, with In Extremo and Schandmaul. The band never afraid to experiment with styles, mixing metal, gothic and punk. But the alpha and omega always were medieval motives.
In a matter of fact, all experiments during their long creative way Saltatio Mortis tried to compile in one album with pathos and philosophical name “Light and Shadows”.
In spite of the compilation really tried to embrace the whole art period, the most songs here from the 2013 album Schwarze Einmaleins. Though, there are some tracks from the early albums 2004-2005 (Des Königs Henker и Erwachen). And, of course, there is a real pearl – “Salome”, a beautiful duet with heavy-metal goddess Doro Pesch. Also, three exclusive bonus-tracks “Schöne neue Welt”, “Fatum” and “Weiß wie Schnee” will be a nice surprise for fans.
Last year the album Zirkus Zeitgeist was released. It shows what the band is doing nowadays. But some retrospective was missed, and Licht Und Schatten is doing it great. But, in my opinion, this compilation have one more important mission: if somebody wanted to make the acquaintance with the band, but didn’t know where to start, Licht Und Schatten – Best of 2000-2014 is a great opportunity to make it.
The compilation will be released on June, 17 by Napalm Records.
