Earlier this year, in April to be precise, Sodom released EP “Days of Retribution”. A little peak on upcoming album “Decision Day” was song “In Retribution”.
“Decision Day” includes 11 songs, 12 if you count “Predatory Instinct” (bonus track for vinyl and iTunes edition):
- In Retribution
- Rolling Thunder
- Decision Day
- Who Is God?
- Strange Lost World
- Vaginal Born Evil
- Blood Lions
- Sacred Warpath
- Refused To Die
Songs are listed in order to flow naturally. Perfect balanced lyrics and music are brutal and melodic enough at the same time. Tom Angelripper showed one more time why, how and to which bands Sodom had a huge influence, and at the other hand who are the bands he admires. In the way he sings, the way band delivers the music you will recognize Behemoth, Cradle of Filth, Marduk, Venom or Kreator sound. So as Marduk, Sodom lyrics also gradated from Satanic, occult to war themes. Once asked why they write about war, Tom answered: “Because we don’t want war”. If his lyrics could just reach some leaders… I have been through war and I know what that means, so I am with Tom and his crew 100%. I refused to die, and the next battle I am going to win is seeing Sodom live.
Sodom has never been typical thrash metal band. What else makes them be unique? I guess this might be production, which has always been little bit different than other thrash bands. Their production is non typical, maybe too clear for thrash, but that is Sodom. Take it or leave it.
Art cover (soldier burned alive) is signed by Joe Petagno, US artist who cooperated with Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Nazareth, Sweet, Marduk, Motorhead, Bal-Sagoth, Autopsy, Illdisposed.
As EP and album were not enough, on August 31st, 2016 Warmongers / Inside My Crosshairs, Running Wild/Sodom split will be released via Rock Hard.
My favorites are “In Retribution”, “Belligerence”, “Decision day”… Who am I kidding? Each song is damn good. Thrash or die!
