Valravn is a Finnish black metal band formed in 2016. On 4 December 2020, their first album “Prey” was officially released.

It features sounds typical of the genre, managing not to be repetitive and that’s a hard thing to say, since often such an album, if not approached with a certain research in writing, risks to turn out as one long track in which some “satanasso” screams his wrath towards religious infrastructures and God.

Valravn fortunately do not fit into this description and manage to give at various points, long aggressive instrumental parts alternating with speed changes and the presence of acoustic guitar lines. As for example in ‘Raven’, a portentous track in which the intro is made by an acoustic guitar whose score is later taken up by the electric guitar; Alarik‘s vocals are as demonic as one could ask for in this song as in the rest of the work in question. The synergy between the various members of the band can be heard and certainly a note of merit should be made to drummer Olkkala, as he manages not only to keep certain speeds or changes of it, but also to give that fullness to the overall sound, which would not be present otherwise.

As a first musical product ‘Prey’ is of good quality, it will now be up to them to continue to improve and make space for themselves in the underground music scene and then possibly worldwide.

Release date: December 4, 2020
