Edenkaiser is a Black Metal band from Spain formed by 4 members. This year they released their first debut album entitled ‘’Dominum Ex Mortis’’. Here it is an interview with 2 of the band’s members Lianne and Häwkmoon.

Hello Lianne, hello Hдwkmoon, how are you?
Lianne Krossburner: Hi, Carla! I’m fine, thanks.
Häwkmoon: Hey, Carla, what’s up?

Before all, tell me about Edenkaiser, when the band was formed.
Lianne Krossburner: So the band was founded by the guitar player Hдwkmoon in 2009 in Barcelona (Spain). At the beginning  he also sang, we had a drummer, Khorum, and I played the bass, but few months later, after our first demo recording, the line-up changed; Khorum left the country, I became the vocalist and Hдwkmoon focused only in the guitar.
Häwkmoon: Even those changes, the essence of the band stayed from the beginning until now. Lianne and me are the keepers of the Edenkaiser stuff.

You have released the first demo in 2009, right?
Häwkmoon: Yes, “Into the Eternal War” was released in 2009. To be honest, it’s a kind of live rehearsal, I mean it’s a really raw and dirty atmosphere. We love it. It was the beginning, the seed of our sound. After that, we had to put the band in stand by due the leaving of Khorum; also we had involved in the writting of two biographycal books -Slayer and Megadeth bios through Quarentena Ediciones publishing house-, so we needed took these years to have the work done meanwhile we were looking for two new musicians. So then, ending 2013, we found two new members: Vherveroth -bass- and Striker -drums-, and with them EDENKAISER released a Vomitory cover -Inferno- included in the official tribute to the swedish band and our first EP “Doomsday Juggernaut”.

First EP was released in 2014. Tell me about it.
Lianne Krossburner: “Doomsday Juggernaut” was self-released, but a couple of weeks later, the british label Cold Raw Records re-edited it. Another label, the spanish one Morbid Shrine Prods. released the tape format with new artwork as well. I have to add that in one of the four songs of this EP -Enter Mephisto-, Secthdamon -from Emperor or Zyklon- participated with vocals.
Häwkmoon: At this point, the purpose of EDENKAISER with this EP was to create a strong, dark, epic, dense, and angry stuff to evoke at that mid-late eighties and early nineties rawness sound. We love bands like Venom, Celtic Frost, Darkthrone, Ancient Rites, Sarcofago, Desaster, Slayer, Voivod, Mayhem, Kreator..so from this mixture of influence EDENKAISER was born.
Lianne Krossburner: The reception of the album was great, even better than our best expectations. We were able to tour around our country and outside and it had very good reviews. We are highly proud of this work, it represents totally, I can say at one hundred percent, who we are and what we want is Edenkaiser. Pure speed, pure aggression. Four songs -Enter Mephisto, Inner Kingdom, A Jewel in my Skull and Kill for the Crown -plus intro – Obsidian-in which we vomited everything we had inside. Hurtful songs, odes to sadness, philosophic ones, even Michael Moorcok adaptations… everything is possible in our music… but always from an agonizing and lethal point of view.

This year you have released the first album entitled ”Dominum Ex Mortis”. How the recordings went so far?
Häwkmoon: We are quick with recordings; we recorded “Doomsday Juggernaut” in four hours and “Dominum Ex Mortis” in probably ten. We use to rehearse a lot and when we get to the studio –hateful place- we want to get done as soon as possible. We connect the stuff to record in live, then I repeat my guitar lines a couple of times, doing some arrangements and finally Lianne add the vocals. Being a long time in a study deprives us of the true nature of our music; we let it go depositing it in the record and then we are ready to prepare new topics. It stings us inside, hehehehe.
What are the lyrical themes for the band?
Lianne Krossburner: Lyrics are not are closed to anything; they talks about hate, injustices, violence, pagan themes and many times I adapt stories, books or films to the mythology of the band. Hдwkmoon composes music creating riffs and atmospheres, and this gives me the inspiration to write my lyrics. Everything always falls on a wild canvas… we are not much of happy endings.

Are you preparing for new material soon?
Häwkmoon: Yes, we are always writing new songs and discarding many others. I am always composing stuff, but it goes through cycles… We are currently preparing an EP entitled “Ov Future Wars & Echoes From the Past”, that will contain two new songs that could not enter into “Dominum …” due lack of time -Exterminate Them (Punishment Beyond Spirit and Flesh) and Towards Acheron- and two covers -Voivod (Ravenous Medicine) and Blue Цyster Cult (Veteran of the Psychic Wars).
Lianne Krossburner: It’s been a busy year, but we love to create new music. We cannot avoid it. Creativity is part of our soul. By the way, we also are working in a Slayer cover – Hell Awaits- that will be part of a tribute CD that will be edited by Blacksteel Music later this year -“Reigning in the Abyss” is the title-. The upcoming year will be the year to think about the new full-length; for now only we know that will adapt a conceptual story that we thought few years ago.

Did you have some shows/tours along?
Häwkmoon: Yes, we’ve been touring around our country, Spain, around France and in Eastern Europe –Romania and Moldova- where we shared stage with bands such as Coprolith, Coldwar, Noctem, Asphyx, Esoteric or Tankard.

Are there shows confirmed for this year?
Lianne Krossburner: This year we have plans to return to France and also playing in countries like Germany – where we will play at a Dresden festival with Raven and Soulburn-, Italy, Denmark, Poland and China. In early 2016 we are planning a South American tour s well, but dates are not closed yet.

What are people saying about Edenkaiser?
Lianne Krossburner: We cannot complain about the reception that the band is having. It is a relatively young group and we had just an EP when we started to travel to Eastern Europe to present our material. With the new work the most reviews have been encouraging and positive, much better than with the EP, so we are more than happy. However we don’t care about to be or not to be recognized, we are focused doing music that the “oldschool metalhead” seeks, those who loves anger and intensity of times past. That is for us the real victory.

Have you received good reviews about the new album?
Häwkmoon: Reviews have been majority good, talking about a certain progression without losing our essence, and that’s what we were looking for. Evolution but without betray ourselves, growing up without losing our identity mark. “Doomsday Juggernaut” was born as a rough job, like a rabid dog… and the new work continues feeding that dog, but it has been indoctrinated to kill better hehehe. We have songs that opened the most “spectral atmosphere” as The Witch and the Beast, Nekrozone or Oblivion Remains, and we have highly dangerous and dark material, like Eternal Martyrium, Blacksteel Legions or Hail to the Godslayer -in which Tony “The Demolition Man “Dolan, from Venom, Atomkraft or M: Pire of Evil puts backing vocals-. Our music will always be extreme and creepy, you know…

Do you have a message for the fans?
Lianne Krossburner: Build your own way, no matter what people think about it, and of course, stay brutal.
Häwkmoon: Do what you please and keep extreme!

Thank you for your answers. Cheers!
Lianne Krossburner: Thank you for everything, Carla. Cheers to everyone!
Häwkmoon: A big pleasure. Cheers to Antichrist webzine readers!
