Last week five unordinary Germans Die Apokalyptischen Reiter pleased their Ukraine fans with the show, where they also presented the songs from new album ‘Der Rote Reiter’.

Maybe I should start from the fact that I knew this famous band only by one song from FIFA computer game.

Few days before the show I listened and really liked Die Apokalyptischen Reiter‘s new album Der Rote Reiter. There were some catchy songs, groovy, full of energy; some of them are more “bouncy” and there also some anthems’ elements. To sum up, Der Rote Reiter is a very talented and distictive mix from death, black, folk and symphonic with very melodic guitar lines. So I haven’t any hesitates about this show and my curiosity reached the maximum.

Well, the third advent of apocalyptic riders to Ukraine started from some energy songs – “Wir sind zurück” and “Es wird schlimmer”, that the crowd, which waited for Die Apokalyptischen Reiter something like an hour, will not regret. Vocalist Fuchs also have seen a familiar face in a fan zone (a fan from German, by the way) and asked him for a little stage-diving.

The fans deceive a single word, because their support was great: the crowd sang choruses in German and slammed with an endless energy. This was facilitated by the soft and high-quality sound, for which I personally appreciate the sound engineer

Die Apokalyptischen Reiter are touring actively right now, and that can be seen by their performance. Sometimes they looked tired, but in general the whole show was great. Interesting fact: on the tour banner and merchandise there can be seen a red rider, which is looks like Ukrainian Cossack. Also, in the middle of the show Fuchs was presented with a glass of horilka (Ukrainian alcohol drink) from which he did not refuse.

Musicians made their best: guitarist smiled to the girls during solo, bassist headbanged and spiked keyboardist armed with a small whip and hit each band member several times, having gone through the stage. In contradistinction to Rammstein for example, riders didn’t sent keyboardist with the boat through the crowd, but it turned out quite the opposite. Well, one of the highlights of the evening was the inflammatory solo from the drummer, when other musicians rest a bit.

In the second part of the set the lights turned off for some time because the frontman wear an interesting clothes which glowed in the dark and UV lights.

Then there were great melodic song with drive, some hits which were taken thankfully by the fans and emotional acoustic “We Will Never Die”. I was really amazed at this moment: brutal musicians are mixing elements from the various genres, playing techniques and vocals masterfully. Because not every singer can switch fast from extreme to clean vocals.

Culmination of the show was a performance of “Revolution”: Fuchs came to a scene with a huge flag and waved it with all his might while singing.

To resume I can tell that pre-apocalypse songs aren’t frightening at all if they sang with humor. So I’ll wait for the new advent of the riders with another Ukrainians. And before that I will thoroughly learn Die Apokalyptischen Reiter‘s discography.
