Pronounce This is the latest album from Swedish band Salems Pot and its blend of theatrical and psychedelic doom is masterful in its heaviness as well as its trippiness. We heard all about the album, the bands history and lots more from Skoog from the band.

Can you give us a bit of history about Salems Pot?

It all started with just two of us watching old horror movies and listening to a lot of 60/70s music while dealing with a lot of anxiety and boredom that the idea of doing something together just grew and the rest is history.

Who are some of the bands influences?

The Beatles, Goblin and Dead Moon.

Your new album Pronounce This is out now. Can you tell us a bit about it?

It’s about life, ndeath and the destruction of the world. And how we feel when we wake up in the morning!

The songs on Pronounce This are all extremely epic. Was it your intention to make the songs this way or did they evolve while you were making them?

And no we didn’t intend to make anything more then what felt and sounded good to ourselves. They all grew naturally during countless jams and discussions. When we record we record everything live except vocals, npercussions and other stuff like accordion and on this recording there was definetly something that was with us in the room and I think you can hear that energy on the record. We were all happy with the outcome.

The most epic song of all is Coal Mind which is both heavy and trippy and an all round amazing song. Can you tell us a bit about that song in particular?

Thanks glad you dig it! Our second guitar player came up with the ideas and riffs for that one and then we structured it together and everyone gave their personal touch to it.

Will you ever play that song live?

Yes. We have actually done it already.

There is a also a big psychedelic feel about Pronounce This. Is psychedelic rock a big influence on the band?

I guess pretty much all music we listen to have some sort of psych elements in general. Anything from an arpeggio to an acoustic guitar alone can be psychedelic depending on in what state of mind the listener is in.

What made you choose the albums title?

We actually wanted another Swedish title but the label thought it would be better if we had a title everyone could pronounce, hence the title. It felt suitable since all the other bad ideas just felt forced.

Can you tell us a bit about the albums mysterious artwork!

Is it mysterious? Can’t really tell anything other than that the label wanted us on the cover and that is what happened. We all went with a terrible hangover one sunday and took some photos. Maybe that’s the mystery, how all of us actually showed up.

How would you describe the Salems Pot sound to someone who had never heard you before?

Like a spaceship that crashed on earth outside a saloon and this was the distress call to get away from this horrible planet.

You’re playing at Desertfest in Antwerp in October alongside Goat, Uncle Acid & The Deadbeats, Torche, Ahab, Pentagram and so many other great bands. Are you looking forward to this?

Yes definitely. Some great bands there.

Do you prefer playing festivals or your own shows?

Both. The energy is always good at festivals and you get to meet and see other bands aswell as many other good people.

What are the bands touring plans part from this?

A European tour with Electric Citizen in October around that time which should be announced soon.

Will you be making it to the UK to play any dates?

London at least during that tour from what I know right now.

What is a live Salems Pot show like?

I would like to see that myself! But it probably is like some uncut B-movie with alot of blurry extra scenes and an alternate ending that no one understands.

What is the best Black Sabbath album?

Vol 4

What is the best horror movie ever made?

To many to name just one but Suspiria is a top contender?
