METALWINGS “Fallen Angel In The Hell” EP
May 12th, 2016
Label: Independent

METALWINGS is Bulgarian symphonic/gothic metal band with Celtic influences, formed in Sofia in 2010. In 2015, band released 3 singles: “Crying of the Sun,Realm of DreamsandSecond Chance. EP “Fallen Angel in the Hell” was released on May 12th, 2016.

EP includes 5 tracks:

  1. Fallen Angel in the Hell
  2. Slaves of the Night
  3. Fallen Angel in the Hell
  4. Immortal Metal Wings
  5. Crying of the Sun

Recording started in the summer of 2015 and it took almost two years. Band was changing studios (“Fallen Angel in the Hell” and “Ship of Shadows” were recorded at Sub Zero Studio, Sofia while “Slaves of the Night” and “Immortal Metal Wings” were recorded at Studio Balkandji, Sofia) and after all was finally done, the material was sent in Italy where it was mixed and mastered (Dyne Engine Studio).

The band is led by classically trained vocalist Stela Atanasova.

Some might say all symphonic metal bands sounds similar, but the truth is you can not reinvent the wheel. What makes Metalwings unique is electric viola and Irish flute. Besides Stela, band has male vocalist, Krastyo Jordanov, better known as Dracovallis.

The first video for “Crying of the Sun”, was filmed in Belogradchik (in translation: small white town). Male vocals were sung by Velislav Uzunov, Metalwings first guitar player who had left the band three months before making of the video. In the video, male vocals are performed by Konstantin Uzunov (bass).

It is one of the most beautiful places here in Bulgaria. It’s a natural phenomenon. It was the first video we made and of course it was a big adventure. We had to climb some rocks and carry all the equipment to the top. It was so windy and cold. We used a drone  for some of the shots, which  was really awesome. The place was so magical and had such a good energy”.

Title track introduces us with beautiful natural female vocal, addictive and at some point nostalgic melody. Electric viola is implemented very gently with powerful drums and guitars. Guitar solo in “Salves of the Night” will buy you at first listening. “Slaves of the Night” maybe have the most Nightwish elements, but as Stela said in interview for Antichrist metalzine:

The truth is that some of us are big fans of this Finnish band, but that doesn’t mean that we are copying their style. We just share the same passion for music. Every musician has a favorite band or an idol”.

Lyrics structure might define “Immortal Metal Wings” as a ballad, but heavy guitars selfishly do not allow it to be classical metal ballad.

What the future brings for Metalwings? Video premiere for “Fallen Angel in the Hell” (April 27th, 2017), album recording in the beginning of the summer and its release in September 2017. Just, this time, behind the drums we will hear Nikola Blackie Ivanov.

“Fallen Angel in the Hell” line up:

Krastyo Jordanov – Guitars, Vocals, Irish Flute;
Konstantin Uzunov – Bass;
Angel Kitanov – Keyboards;
