Hailing from Victoria, Australia, greased up supersonic rockers Zombie Motors Wrecking Yard, please take one step forward.
Now I’ve been in two minds how to approach this review. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love the album. It’s a fired up slab of dirty biker rock, but sometimes, I just wish they’d steered on a more original journey, like the one taken on opener Grind The Grinder, which would fill a pub swear box in just over 4 minutes.
This shit is so dirty, even Bon Scott would be a bright shade of crimson.
Where I think the album has a few failings is when it sounds like Rob Zombie. And when I say it sounds like him, it’s a note for note reconstruction without an original bone in its body. And that’s the only real downside to this album.
In terms of high octane rock n roll, you can’t criticise them at all. This is like playing a driving game with weird psychedelic lights on full blast and whatever those crazy rotating spirals are called. Kitten Natividad go-go dancing in the background would be a nice addition to the fantasy as well.
I’m also a fan of some of the slower, grittier guitar work, like on the opening to Roll N Burn, which reminds me of the greatest Aussie band of all time, Rose Tattoo (you can argue the point about AC/DC, but they were made up of Scots, English and the occasional Aussie most of the time). But whoever is cranking out those licks, can we have some more please.
Look, after such an amazing opening number, I was hoping that the ZMWY would be the savours of rock n roll with a new original sound. As it stands, the album is a fun listen throughout, and the frequent flashes of brilliance indicates that they are a band that can really go places, if they identify their own sound.
