Hi! Can you tell us about the process of re-issuing your debut album “Convergence” with Season of Mist?

Season Of Mist contacted us directly after hearing Convergence resonate somewhere in the cosmos, we accepted their offer in 0.06 nanoseconds because we appreciate a lot what the label did throughout the years with many top-favourite artists of ours.
What inspired you to re-issue “Convergence” at this time?
We jointly thought that reissuing the album could have been a chance to create a more solid base with the label and its followers, and also because the first run of copies held by the original labels were almost sold out after 6 months or so!
Single “Incubo” seems to explore themes of horror and fear. Can you tell us more about the inspiration behind the song and the message you want to convey through it?
If we have to find a reference for “Incubo”, that would be Andrzej Żuławski 1981’s masterpiece “Possession”, one of our favourite movies for the sense of irreality and horror that it transmits.
But we think that the idea came out by itself and wasn’t inspired by the movie on purpose, it’s a fictional story about an horrific Nightmare (Incubo, in italian) where the “chosen mother for the birth of the unborn” gets possessed […] by an entity in her night hallucinations, which were not that unreal as it seemed.
“Incubo” is probably the only “Parental Advisory” song we’ve got in our album so it had to be explicit to compensate with the other songs!
“Incubo” features a blend of intense riffs, screams, and unique rhythms. Can you walk us through the creative process behind the song’s composition and how you approached bringing these elements together?
Our composition progress during the writing of the whole “Convergence” album was just pain, pain and pain, nothing more.
We can’t really remember this specific song in particular as it was composed approx. 5 years ago, we were a bit more younger than we already are, and we just wanted to go beyond our limits, we also had more time to spend in our ex-rehearsal room/bunker, so it was just countless days of cool riffs coming one beyond another, and we just tried to let them make sense in the smoothest way possible.
How does it feel to have your album available on three different vinyl colors?
Super! Our first press had 2 different vinyl colors, the normal Black and the “Transparent Fish” clear edition, so we wanted to pay some kind of homage to it in a new way, and gone for an incredible turquoise/clear edition which makes the perfect trio with Yellow and Black editions, the label did a perfect job and we have been 100% involved in the decision which is something not to be ignored!
Can you discuss any changes or updates made to the album for the re-issue?
In Italy, we always say “Squadra che vince non si cambia” (Never change a winning team), so there are no major changes in this reissue, apart from the new sparkling vinyl colours mentioned above. We also had a line-up change in the meanwhile, with Jean-Claude taking Emiliano’s place on the bass, so there was no time to plan anything special, musically speaking.
What was the recording and production process like for “Convergence”?
Recording and all the post-production work has been done at “Bridge Produzioni Audio and Studio” in Susegana, with our godfather Marino De Angeli, who took care of every dB recorded, and took care of us stupid noisy kids as well.
The album was recorded in two weeks total between July and September 2021.
What sets Miscreance apart from other contemporary technical death metal bands?
We always like to define ourselves as Technical Thrash/Death Metal, not just to make it more difficult to remember, but because we feel that Thrash metal is a really important part of our music, also because our background is 100% Thrash Metal (technical or not, doesn’t really matter), and that kind of Thrash aggression can’t be found everywhere in Technical Death these days.
Another thing to mention is that most of the Technical Death Metal bands today prefer to inspire to more modern or brutal bands (Like Obscura or Suffocation) than we do, we are going a little more back in time, taking inspiration from the very beginning of the genre, when was more of a hybrid thing.
What themes or concepts were you exploring lyrically on the album?
Everything can be an influence for us, myths, personal emotions, horror, dystopian future, ancient world and mysteries, random fictional scenarios… we don’t like to follow a path, we listen to the complete song first, and then we try to capture its feeling and try to find a topic that fits well in between the riff vortex
Can you tell us about the artwork for the album and its significance to the music?
Artwork is just the artist James McCarthy following his vibes and 2-3 references we gave him. We chose him because we loved some of his previous works we saw online.
The stellar frenzies “converges” towards the centre of the artwork as we wanted, but the subjects weren’t clear to us, so he just painted a whole incredible surreal scenario and that’s why we wanted him at all costs.
The artwork resembles perfectly the controlled chaos in our music, with lots of colors and undefined subjects.
How have you been promoting the re-issue of “Convergence”?
We’ll be recording a video music for “The Garden” which is something we never did, so it gave us lots of ideas and we’re super happy to do it!
What can fans expect from MISCREANCE in the future, both in terms of new music and live performances?
We’ll be touring 2 weeks throughout Europe alongside Suppression from Chile, one of our favourite new death metal bands, they’re basically a mixture between Sadus and Monstrosity, super cool!
We’re going through Serbia, Hungary, Czech Republic, Germany, Denmark, Italy, Netherlands, Switzerland and Belgium! Full tour plan is available on our social medias.
Then we’ll take a short pause from gigs outside Italy and we’ll focus on the new album we’re composing.
We’re working hard on the composition and for now we can say for sure that it’s 1000 times harder and faster to play, compared to “Convergence”.
But the style remains the same old one, so don’t expect a “grown up” album or a MIDI composed one.
If “Convergence” was “Technical Thrash/Death at the edge of reality”, this next one will surely cross that edge!
