Interview with Bob, the guitar player of the international Brutal Death metal band, Fungus.
Hi Bob, how things are going?
Things are going great, thanks. Our album “Predatory Harvest” has just been released through Ultimate Massacre Productions and the reactions are being great. We’ve had lots of positive feedback.
When was Fungus formed?
Fungus was formed in the year 2000. Some time ago. We’ve been through a lot of line-up changes. Since a few years the band has been defining a more solid and serious path. With the release of our mcd and this album that has become very evident.
“Predatory Harvest” is the debut album released this year, tell me about it.
The album has 10 tracks of brutal death metal. It took some time to write and we threw a lot of songs away. We are always very picky when it comes to choosing tracks to use. We also re-recorded two songs from our mcd, “Extermination Dantesque” because they deserved to be on this album and they fit in just right. They are the only two songs without guitar solos. That’s something that changed since the mcd. We started including guitar solos in most of our songs. There is an instrumental track on there as well. Concerning lyrics, we wrote about several different subjects. From the rise of technology controlling our lives, to scientific subjects and even the human mind.
Got any nice reviews about the album?
The album has been released less than two weeks ago so I haven’t heard of any reviews so far. Only great reactions from everybody that hears it. Reviews should be coming up shortly.
Are you going to tour to promote the new album?
Yes. We are contacting different booking agencies to arrange a tour to properly promote this album. Other than that, we already have some gigs planned. We have some confirmed gigs in the Netherlands and in Portugal. Keep an eye on our Facebook page to know where we will be heading next.
What are the band’s influences and who mainly writes the music in the band?
We are influenced by everything we listen to. Lots of different stuff. Some of it isn’t even metal music. I think our main influences come from the early brutal death metal stuff. Also some technical death metal stuff. The whole band takes part in the writing process with Fungus. Usually someone comes up with a frame of a song and the band works on it from there. The lyrics are mainly written by Artur and by me.
You are an internation band, a mix of members from Portugal, Switzerland and Netherlands, right?
Yes. I live in the Netherlands, Filipe lives in Switzerland and the rest of the guys live in Portugal.
Other plans about Fungus?
Right now we are planning on promoting this CD as much as we can. I think that’s what will keep us busy in 2016. We are recording demos of new songs for the second album. We already have 3 or 4 songs recorded and we have a few more being written right now. But right now the most important thing is reaching as many people as possible with “Predatory Harvest”.
Do you have a message for the fans?
I can’t say enough to thank all the people following us, showing up at our gigs, buying our stuff, spreading the word… thank you!!! You are the ones making this band grow bigger and bigger.
