Finnish heavy doom rockers Deep River Acolytes unveil their latest creation, the EP Procession of the Damned. This five-track offering sees the band exploring a more dynamic and multifaceted sound, blending oddball heavy rock with epic, blackened proto-metal influences. Known for their unique blend of doom and bluesy heaviness, DRA continues to evolve their sound while staying rooted in their signature Antichrist-Oriented Rock (AOR) ethos. To be released via Octopus Rising / Argonauta Records on December 13th.

And today, we have the privilege of premiering this EP exclusively! Below, you’ll find the full stream of Procession of the Damned alongside my humble thoughts on this remarkable release.

Listening to Procession of the Damned feels like opening a dark, mysterious book and getting lost in its pages. Deep River Acolytes kick things off with “They Told Their Secrets in Dreams,” a track that’s part haunting lullaby, part heavy rock odyssey. The melody pulls you in gently, but the weight of the riffs hits like a storm – an excellent way to set the tone.

Then comes “Rimes for the Vultures,” which has a kind of swagger to it, gritty and full of attitude. It’s the track you crank up when you’re in the mood for something fierce and unapologetically loud. And just when you think you’ve got a handle on the EP, “The Quarry” surprises you. It’s slower, and drenched in atmosphere – perfect for those moments when you want to close your eyes and let the music take over.

“Maze of Deceit” is where things get a bit wild. The shifts in tempo and the intricate guitar work give it this unpredictable edge, almost like the band is deliberately keeping you on your toes. And then there’s “Under the Freezing Moon,” the closing track that feels like stepping into the abyss. It’s dark, cold, and slow — a perfect way to end an EP that doesn’t shy away from exploring every corner of their sound.

Deep River Acolytes clearly aren’t content to stay in one lane. Whether you’re here for the riffs, the atmosphere, or the sheer creativity, you’ll find plenty to dig into.
