Interview with Tor Simensen (vocals), about the Norwegian Melodic Death metal band, No Dawn.
Hej Tor, how have you been?
Hi. I’m good, thank you!
When did No Dawn was formed?
No Dawn was formed back in 2002 as a trash metal project, playing coversongs of bands like At The Gates and In Flames. In 2004 No Dawn got a steady line-up and started to form self-written material. Some changes has been done with the guitars, but the bass, drums and vocals has been the same since then. Actually there has been a change with the guitars lately. Andreas Bruheim had to leave the band due to personal reasons. Lars Stavdal (Wallachia) has taken his place.
In 2013 you have released via WormHoleDeath the debut album entitled ”Dark Aura”, what can you tell me about the album?
Personally I think it’s a good album, allthough I like the more brutal music style bether. We wanted to try something new, and added orchestration to the songs. It worked out pretty well, I think. It was something we had to do, for experiment.
Have you received good reviews for the album?
The album has been given good reviews, and we are pleased with the response!
Will you release new materials soon?
As I mentioned, we have just had a change in the guitar-line. So in first place we have to get to know each other as musicians. Paal and Lars have been working together on Lars’ project Wallachia for some time, so they are used to work together. But I hope we will have new material ready for recording some time in 2016.
What are No Dawn’s influences?
No Dawn’s influences are many. But the main influences comes from bands like Origin, Behemoth, Cannibal Corpse, etc…
Who mainly writes the music and what are the lyrical themes?
So far it has been Andreas and Paal that wrote the music, and Paal and me wrote the lyrics. (With some help from the rest of the guys) Paal and Lars will mainly take it from here with the music. Concerning the lyrics, we will keep wrighting it together. The lyrical themes changes from time to time. It depends on the state of mind. With Dark Aura, the theme was about a mental sick person with great disturbance! We allso have wrote lyrics with quite gorry themes. So just let’s see where we are heading next time.
Any shows confirmed?
We don’t have any planed shows yet. We will concentrate on wrighting new material and hopefully we have a new album ready some time next year.
A message for your fans?
I just want to say thank you for all the support! We really appreciate it! And please be patient! We will hit you again. Hard! Stay metal! Stay brutal!
Thank you for the answers, all the best to you Tor!
