Interview Praetoria

Interview with Morgan Tama, bassplayer of the French Death/Thrash metal band, Praetoria.
Hi Morgan, how things are going?
Hi Carla, I’m well thanks. Working hard on the new album “Mirror Of Modernity” right now. It is quite a tough and long work.

When was Praetoria founded?
Praetoria was founded in 2009 by Michael and Jonathan (drums and guitar). It took a few months before they found the exact style they wanted to play. Soon joined Pierre (guitar) and finally joined myself and Alex (singer).We quickly realised that this line up was meant to be for PRAETORIA.

Soon you will release the debut album, ”Mirror Of Modernity”. Tell me about it.
Yeah! We have recorded this album at DIH Prod, it was fun and hard to do. We did the artwork by Gary Kelly from Ampvisual. We are very happy with the atmosphere of the album. Compared to our previous releases, the songs are more technical and mature. We all pushed our limits to give the best. The album is out now and available on our website (bigcartel, bandcamp).

Who mainly wrote the album?
This is a hard question. I would say that we all composed. Some songs are written by one or two persons. It can happen that this song is totally modified by the rest of the band. But I would say the best songs are those made all together in rehearsals or in band meetings. For example, we have released a track last week. This world Immersed, this track has been written in one night by all the band. I personaly think that this is the spirit. In final, this album has been written by all Praetoria.

What are the lyrical themes?
The albums talks about the story of a Praetorian soldier raised with notions of freedom and justice. Each song describes the feeling of this man facing differents problems. Themes of this album are quite large (roman gods, wars, manipulation of our modern society, the careless of the population and the daily desease of humanity.

Any influences?
Yes we all have different influences in this band. Some will only listen some old thrash metal,others will listen to death metal, hardcore or even modern metal. I know we all have a common influence, it will be All shall perish.I f I have to name other bands relative to Praetoria, it will be Psycroptic, Man Must Die, Misery Index, Gojira, Despised Icon and Sylosis

Are there any shows confirmed for this year?
Yes there are many shows coming this year, but we will announce this in time.

Do you have a message for the fans?
Yes, the album is out now and available on our bigcartel or bandcamp. We have just release a new videoclip « The Passenger » on youtube. Please feel free to leave a message on our page.
