Interview with Davide Straccione, the vocalist of the Doom metal band, Shores Of Null.
Hello to you Davide, how things are going?
Hi, things are going great. We’re currently on the road to Hamburg where our tour with Hooded Menace and Mourning Beloveth kicks off tomorrow. We’re very excited to be honest!
At first, tell me when Shores Of Null was born.
Shores Of Null started as a full band in 2013 but some riffs and ideas became to circulate between Gabriele, Raffaele (the two guitarists) and me already a year before. We all come from different musical and life backgrounds, but we share a common passion for what is dark and gloomy.
In 2014 you have released the debut album under the name of ”Quiescence”. Tell me about it.
Every idea, effort and emotion of the early period flowed into our debut album. We named it “Quiescence” because it is the natural defense that some animals and plants use to survive in hostile conditions, I’ve fantasized about making this power available for humans, can you imagine that? We sent out a well presented promo with all the tracks to a small list of labels we thought could have been the right ones for us, and luckily Candlelight was interested. That’s how the story started.
Have you got nice reviews about the album?
Yes, we had plenty of them. Honestly the most part of the reviews we got were awesome, we didn’t expect a similar reaction when we released it. Many important magazines spent some great words about us, we couldn’t be happier.
Are you planning to release a new album soon?
We have a good number of new songs ready to end up on the upcoming album, and we are at the last stages of pre-production. We’ll be ready to enter the studio in January.
What can you tell me about Shores of Null’s influences?
Our influences are so many and diverse, I’m sure you can pinpoint most of them within our songs, we make no secrets of what we like and we don’t consider ourselves as a groundbreaking or innovative band. We like Amorphis, Katatonia, Enslaved, and many others, from Scandinavia especially.
Also, what are the lyrical themes do you focus on?
I focus on the struggles of everyday life, seen from a dark and disenchanted mind. Those who have never been through hard times, can never truly understand the real meaning of happiness. Everything is an influence to me, travelling especially.
Any shows confirmed?
We have a 10 days tour with Hooded Menace and Mourning Beloveth from December 3rd to 12th, last show being Eindhoven Metal Meeting. Then we take a small break to record the new album but there are also a few more gigs confirmed in 2016 which we’re going to announce shortly.
Do you have something to say for the fans?
I want to say thank you to each one of you who bought a record or a t-shirt from us, it’s also because of you if we’re here. We wish we could tour more in the future and raise a glass for each one of you.
Thank you Davide for this interview, cheers and all the best!
Cheers Carla. Thank you very much for getting in touch with me. Keep up the good work.
