Hi Zack, how are you?
Hello Carla, I’m fine thank you. Happy to do this interview!

When was the band founded?
The band was founded in early 2013. Mike and I had been in a previous project that fell through and instead of calling it quits we searched for new members to start it all from the beginning. The goal was to play the kind of music we would like to listen to ourself. Real classic 1980’s Heavy metal. Daniel was a long time friend to Mikey and he was up for the challenge to play the bass. Even though he had only played the guitar before… Björn and JJ joined about one or two weeks later. None of who’m we had met before. We held three “auditions” for three members. It was an instant positive energy when me Björn and Johan and we really hit it off immediately. So the whole process of “founding” the band went very smooth.

“Dying Son” is the second full-lenght released this year, tell me about it.
After “Darkest Horrors” we felt that we needed to streamline our sound. It was poking out in to many different directions on DH. So as soon as we came home from supporting Tim Ripper Owens on his european tour, we started working on new material. We also came to meet Cederick Forsberg. He runs a studio called Studio 2-takt and him, Mikey and I started talking about recording our sophomore album. We wanted our album to, in a sense, sound like a live gig with Starblind. We didn’t want a separate sound on a CD/LP and when people come to see us on stage. So we simply recorded it like a live gig. All the instruments at the same time and with no metronom.  And by not using any drum samples but recording real miced up guitar amplifeirs (no vst plugins!) I believe the album got a very organic and authentic sound.

Have you got nice reviews about the album?
Yes, we have received very good reviews on our album which of course we are very happy about.

Also talk about the debut album “Darkest Horrors”.
Our album debute, “Darkest Horrors”, was recorded at Studio Audiogrind by Linus Nirbrant in december 2013. It was released by Stormspell Records, a very professional label, and received good reviews.

Who mainly writes the music in the band and what are the lyrical themes?
Up until the song “Firestone” (written by Daniel) it was me and JJ who wrote the songs and Mikey wrote the lyrics and song melodies. But even so, every bandmember gives his own touch to each song which I believe is very important to our sound.

What are Starblind’s influences?
As a band our biggest influences come from European metal acts from the 1980’s: Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Accept, Tokyo Blade… to many to name!

Any shows confirmed?
A European spring 2016 is confirmed but right now we haven’t released any dates.

Do you have a message for the Starblind fans?
Look out for “Dying Son”, released by Pure Steel Records on the 4th of december!

Thank you Zack and all the best!
