Luke Perry has revealed how he based part of his role in “The Beat Beneath My Feet” on Dave Mustaine. The former Beverly Hills, 90210 star plays a rocker who has to overcome his physical injuries and emotional issues in John Williams’ drama, the only British feature film in competition at the Berlin Film Festival for a Crystal Bear award.
“I thought about the gentleman from Megadeth – Dave Mustaine,”
the 48-year-old actor said.
Like Luke’s character, Dave, who also co-founded Metallica, was left unable to play the guitar after suffering severe nerve damage to his left arm and hand.
“He was a guy who had a lot of trouble in his life because of different issues. He got asked to leave one band and started up his own band. Something happened to his arm and he was challenged physically to play the guitar”
Luke continued.
“I thought, ‘There’s something inside that guy that really drives him to overcome all those things and find his way back to making music’. So I wondered about that a lot when thinking about the challenges he had to overcome, so there may have been part of where that came from.”
“The Beat Beneath My Feet” premiered at U.K.’s Raindance Film Festival on September 25, 2014. The international premier will take place on February 11 at the Haus der Kulturen der Weltand in Berlin, Germany and will open nationwide in the U.K. at PictureHouse cinemas from May 12.
