Interview with Janneke de Rooy, the vocalist of the Dutch Death metal band Paper Doll Decay.
Hello Janneke, how are you?
I am fine thank you! And you?
Tell me when Paper Doll Decay was formed.
Paper Doll Decay was formed back in 2008 when I started to collaborate with Caspar Koster (Guitarist). We worked on a demo (3 songs) and quickly recruited Jarno Hol (bassplayer) and Robin Boogaard (drummer). However, Robin left after a year and was quickly followed up by Rob Koene who is still with us. In 2013 we hit the stage for the first time and now, 2015, we have released our debut EP desolation.
This year you have relased the EP entitled ”Desolation”. What can you tell me about it?
This is our little gem! We are extremely proud of the finished product. The reason why it’s called Desolation is because the songs are all based on the wars that are going on in the Middle East.
Have you got good reviews for the EP?
So far the response has been more than positive! But you never know. There can always be somebody out there who hates what we do.
Are you preparing for a new album?
I can’t say we are preparing for a new album, however we are working on new material already.
What are the band’s influences?
I would say the main influences come from Meshuggah and Lamb of God.
Which are the lyrical themes?
Lyrical themes are war, politics, Middle East and religion.
Any shows confirmed for this year?
We have three shows confirmed this year so far. First one up is on June 7th where we share the stage with the almighty Nervecell from Dubai for our EP presentation.
