So here comes newest album of another Gods of Thrash Metal! I’m sure that everyone knows at least basic facts and that’s why I’ll don’t say a word about when, where and why they was born, how many releases they have and so on. The fact is that they during these 35 years (there was long period of break, but…) used three different names, but DEATH ANGEL is just this one which’s known to every Metalhead on this planet. By the way, when I hear their music (especially this from the past) it’s anything strange for me that maniacs both on Philippines and in The States say: “they’re from our country”…

“The Evil Divide” is full-length and contains ten songs. Music is of course Thrash Metal, but especially in vocals’ line I can hear quite strong influences of other genre of music. To be honest music is also full of them (not of the same genre as vocal, but…). This is pure Thrash Metal and there’s no doubt about it, but in the same time it’s absolutely not, let’s say, sterile! Orthodox fans of this subgenre of Metal will surely sniff at sometimes too much technical structure of songs. Well, that’s truth. Except typical short and aggressive riffs we have here also little more complicated, broken ones, solos played in not so typical for Thrash Metal way. Of course these first ones dominate and these second are rather hidden (except solos for sure), but…

The truth is that if somebody by some huge mistake never heard at least about DEATH ANGEL after beginning of first song (“The Moth”) would expect some Death Metal album. Of course this person would be surprised or maybe even disappointed that it’s not what it looks (sounds) for. Well, some of Thrashers will probably have similar feelings. Those ones who know creativity of the band should be rather satisfied. DEATH ANGEL never, at least on my ears, wasn’t typical band, always used elements of several subgenres of Metal and not only. The clearest influences here are mentioned above Death Metal and HC (this good old one – mostly hearable in vocal’s parts). By the way, if somebody will dig deeper than…

As I said before riffs are quite often broken or even twisted. Sometimes we have here more Thrash playing in its typical form, but it never take longer time. To be honest even these moments can’t be noticed as typical or traditional ones… ehehehehehehe… Well, this band was always going their path and “The Evil Divide” isn’t any exception here. That was also DEATH ABGEL who created so called Bay Area Thrash Metal. Anyway, in this music really a lot happens. Guitars, bass and drums play in really variable way. The fact is that from one side this music isn’t very easy to listen to, if you know what I mean. But in the same time it’s melodic enough (huge roll play here breed spectrum of vocal – from even Power Metal to Thrash or old school HC). The most of songs provoke to headbanging and already mentioned “The Moth”, “Father of Lies”, “It Can’t Be This” “Hatred United, United Hate” are real Metal hits! Well, to be honest all songs have this something what “Cross my heart, cross my soul” – to get to know if it’s citrate and from where it’s taken you need to get this album first!!!
