OHTAR “Euthanasia Of Existence”
Deathrune Records

I got this stuff, the same as TERRÖRHAMMER, CHAOSBAPHOMET and MARTYVORE, from Matt Von Siebenbürgen of DEATHRUNE RECORDS. This time we’re moving to my homeland: Poland. In region called Lower Silesia quite near to Wałbrzych is located Świdnica Śląska. City even if it’s not big one has very interesting, multicultural history. There in 1996 was formed the band. Until today there were many changes in line-up and even two years of break in existence. At the moment in OHTAR play only two guys: Sławomir (dr) and Necro (voc, guit, bass).

“Euthanasia…” is the forth full-length in long history of OHTAR. Besides there were released several demos, splits and even EP entitled “Quotidian Purgatory”. However, we have here on their newest release six long Black Metal compositions. Music is just as you probably think that it is: mostly in slow tempos. Guitar plays in changeless and even monotonous way. Riffs are invariables (on whole album we can count them on fingers of maybe even one hand) and primitive. Of course, at least in my opinion, it’s not about lack of technical possibilities. As I know Necro plays guitar since birth of the band, so 20 years. In so long time it’s totally impossible to don’t get to know to play well any instrument, or what?!? So the only right conclusion is that it’s about music’s convention. In Black Metal, especially this kind of Black Metal which presents OHTAR, you just play like that.

Anyway, drums’ work is a little more variable. It doesn’t mean that we have here some “miracles on stick” as we say in Poland. But from time to time there’s some passage or something what we can call like that. However, everything is in slow, sometimes even very slow tempo. If somebody expects any speed ups or something than I must disappointed this person! Of course we have here also typical for Black Metal vocal – also rather invariable. Whole the time it’s in the same convention.

Whole album can be boring for somebody who isn’t maniac of this kind of Black Metal. So I recommend it only to them!!! Rest can listen to it once on the year…
