In 2013 Texans Scorpion Child hit the world of music with their same named debut album. Three years later they are back with renewed line-up to success once again with new their new record Acid Roulette.

Formed in 2006, Scorpion Child with their hellish mix of hard-rock, psychedelic and stoner had reached a lot. The first album reached #26 in BillboardHeatseekers chart and #99 in Hard Music Albums;  iTunes named “Polygon of Eyes” single of the week. This is really big achievement for the young band, so it’s no surprise that the guys were nominated for «Best New Band» at the Classic Rock Magazine and shared stage with Clutch and Monster Truck on the «Lord of the Riff» UK tour.

A year later guitarist Tom “The Mole” Frank with drummer Shawn Alvear are leaving the band. Jon “The Charn” Rice becomes the new drummer and in 2015 keyboardist Aaron John “AJ” Vincent also join the band. With the new line-up Scorpion Child goes to the studio to record their new album – Acid Roulette.

First that you feel while listening is a wild energy that knocks you down. Even in a record. It’s not hard to imagine what a madness happening at their live shows. It’s unknown who made more contribution to this: the band themselves, which made «live» recording or Frammy nominate, producer  Chris “Frenchie” Smith. Vocalist Aryn Jonathan Black tells: « We recorded the heart and soul of the album live in the studio. We didn’t do that on the first record. Tracking live made the album a snapshot of a moment. Since the guys just joined the band, we didn’t have much time to figure each other out or overthink things. We just naturally clicked. It was a do or die situation, but it worked out. Our initial vision became more intense with time and texture.»

13 tracks compiled in a whole concept. «I had this lucid dream, – Aryn goes on, – about a bohemian guy who gets framed for a murder he perhaps did or didn’t do. He goes to prison for life. In order to mentally escape, he plays Acid Roulette». Unified line can be also heard in a music. Although, it’s very diverse: stoner (“Blind Man’s Shine”, “She Sings I Kill”), classic hard-rock (“My Woman In Black”, blasting  “Tower Groove”) and even overtones of classic heavy (“Reaper’s Dance”). Great Aryn’s vocals, guitar lines, riffs and solos with keyboards that emphasize the beauty of composition – everything is so in its place, that just remarkable. Also, I want to especially pick out the drummer Jon Rice’s work. The energy, solos and pitch style reminded me the legendary John Bonham. One more time: I’m not comparing them, no! But only deaf or indurate man can’t pick out the drums in this record.

Acid Roulette – is a great, energetic work, that will appreciate, I’m sure. And be careful, it’s cause addiction easily. However, it’s not bad at all.
