Sodom “Days of Retribution” EP
Steamhammer
Sodom was formed in 1981 in Gelshenkirchen, Germany. Band has released 14 studio albums. Till we are waiting new studio album “Decision Day” (August 26, 2016), here is a review of EP “Days of Retribution”.
EP “Days of Retribution” includes new song “In Retribution”, opening song of their next album which is announced as “Diverse thrash metal offering on the subject of D-Day, the day in June 1944 when the troops of the Western Allied forces landed in Normandy to liberate mainland Europe from the scourge of Nazi Germany”.
Next three songs: “Ace of Spades”, “Kamikaze Terrorizer” and “Waterboarding” are bonus tracks (“Ace of Spades”, Motörhead cover, LP bonus from “Epitome of Torture”, 2013; “Kamikaze Terrorizer” Japanese edition bonus track from “Sodom”, 2006; “Waterboarding” “Epitome of Torture” bonus track 2013).
EP includes 2 live songs: “Wachturm” (“Tapping the Vein”, 1992) and “The Saw Is The Law” (“Better of Dead”, 1990).
At the beginning of their career, band was struggleing for their place under the metal sky, often accused as Venom clones. Album that finally made Sodom one of the best thrash metal bands was “Agent Orange” (1989) which has been sold more copies than any other German thrash metal album ever. During their 35 years career, band was changing musical style: thrash, death, black metal with influences of punk and groove metal (“Get What You Deserve”, 1994; “Masquerade in Blood”, 1995). Full return to thrash sound was “Code Red”, 1999.
EP “Days of Retribution” is perfect warming-up for new album “Decision Day”. Band has already started Festival Tour, so if you are lucky you might hear them at Rockmaraton, Bang Your Head, Obscene Extreme, PartySan Open Air, More Than Fest or Reload Festival.
Angelripper, Makka and Bernemann will be there.
