Throes “This Viper Womb”
Aesthetic Death records

While living on one side of the world, you absolutely don’t muse about what happening on another. Even if there is something special happens. Debut LP This Viper Wombs release from Tasmanian band Throes is one of this special occasions. According to the band they even created their own genre – dissident metal (principally, mixing black, thrash, post-rock and heavy-metal). Mastermind Trent Griggs, creator, vocalist, bassist and guitarist made something extraordinary, dark and gloomy.

The album opens by “Permanent Midnight” with a little too long but intriguing intro. But that’s what creates necessary atmosphere, which supports by musicians till the end. The only lack is the song’s final that’s not so good.

“Shock To The Guts”, full of energy and aggression, where tempo’s changing aren’t reduce the power of evil. Music is charging and overfill the listener. It’ll be ideal to listen to it live. Solos are very interesting and reminding much at the same time. As it seems, it was made to make fan listen to it any times and decompose it.

“Dead Lights” is recognizable black-metal, full of hate and aggression. Extreme vocals, fierce guitar riffs and drums, everything that inherent to the genre.

Atmospheric black, sometimes nearly «French-school», sometimes raw Norwegian is waiting in a song named “Conscience Makes Cowards”.

Dark and interesting “Nothing Left For Voltures” becomes «classic» black-metal only in the end. While listening to it there are some thoughts that it’s nearly dark post-rock, than something else. Full of musical experiments, heavy- and the other genres’ elements are going very well with evil lyrics. Excellent work.

“Nowhere Else” is heavy, absolutely not black-metal song, that crushes with its thrash- energy. Even hell screams, terrible overdrive and slow tempo till the middle of the song isn’t make it black-metal.

Title  “This Viper Womb” is also original piece. Yet, with a little bit long intro (which is permissible for a genre). Other is fascinates and leaves a good impression. It comes to mind next picture: all the scum and rubbish, that inflamed mind can only imagine, shows the romance that’s not inherent.

“Lavish The Anguish” is a good example of great drums and guitar work. Rhythm changes, great vocal parties and themes intertwine – this track’s energy smashes.

“Feed It” reminds of British black-. Accustomed to European ear musical solutions with remarkable performance. This track is understandable, ad probably it’ll take its place in Old World blackers’ playlists.

“DNA Corruption” is compilation of grim, blasting sounds, monotone melody that causes feeling of menace, something sinister and dangerous near. This track is hardly can be described as «song», but it would be a great soundtrack.

Wll, Throes made that one black-metal, that you can call it «black-metal» at once. Eventually, you understand that’s there are no more words to describe it.

For resume: there is an outlandish colorful mix from the best European pieces of black- and other genres with the band’s individual style. It’s not secondarily, as some grumblers said, with fresh look on a music. Anyway, this album, as minimum, worth the acquaintance.
