Interview with Morgan Frööjd, vocalist and guitar player of the Swedish Thrash metal band.
Hi Morgan, how are you?
Hi Carla, I’m doing great!

When the band Skeleton Birth was founded?
The band was founded in 2010, after my return from Afghanistan. Me, Ulf and Erik had been talking about starting a thrashmetal band ever since 2008 but we did’nt get to it untill 2010.

Initally the band was called Machine since last year, then you changed into Skeleton Birth. What made you change the name?
Well, the idea of naming the band  Machine was to reflect the feeling and sound we wanted to deliver. A fast, brutal sound with the grinding sound of a V8. But when we discovered that metal lovers that had’nt heard the album often asked us about what kind of music we play, we started to have second thoughts. And when we started to get feedback from various record companies and promotors that they liked the album but had doubts about the name, we decided to change it.
We chose Skeleton Birth because it makes people think. You get an unpleasant feeling when you hear it and you automatically start to think about death and birth, the cycle of life and bad things that can happen. Just like the lyrics in the songs.

What can you tell me about the debut album ”War Diary”?
War diary is a diary from my service in Afghanistan in 2009 as a commander of a recon unit. The songs describe both actual occurrences as thoughts and reflections from a soldier on the frontline.
Troops in contact describes when we, in the middle of the night, were ambushed by 25 insurgents. A firefight that lasted for two hours.
Seven years and married tells the story of a seven year old girl that lived in our district. She was married to an old man with the agreement that he wouldn’t have sex with her until the age of 9, when It is legal in Afghanistan. He didn´t keep his promise and the girls’ parents addressed the matter to the head of police in the district. The matter was addressed to the local council, but since it was“only” two years left to be a legal act, the matter was dismissed…
My wish is that people who listen to the album get a reminder that life as we in know it in western countries is not to be taken for granted. People all over the world is living under terrible conditions

Do you have a new album out?
We are currently putting all our effort into promoting this album. But yes, the concept for the new album is taking form and we have some new material that is really awesone. But there is no date set for that release.

What are your influences?
I’m a big fan of Eddie van Halen, Joe Satriani and Steve Vai. As a guitarplayer they have been my greatest inspitation. When it comes to bands i listen allot to Megadeth, slayer, Meshuggah, Iron Maiden, Bloodbath amongst others.

Are you going to tour this year?
We have no tour planed this year but we are planing to go on one next year.

Do you have a message for the fans?
Thank you for your support! We love you and keep on rockin’!

Thank you Morgan for it. Cheers!
Thank you too!
