With the release of their M-Theory Audio debut, “Path To Immortality,” just hours away, the Southern California melodic death metal quintet VOICES OF RUIN has fired a final warning shot previewing the album’s sonic fury. Check out the ferocious “Reach Toward The Sky” now at YouTube (https://youtu.be/t9_4Jr5_9MI) and Bandcamp (https://voicesofruin. bandcamp.com).
Says vocalist David Barrett,
“We wanted to release a song that shows how dynamic ‘Path To Immortality’ really is. ‘Reach Toward The Sky’ is one of its longer songs, and it has a few different tempos and melodies while holding to some heavy riffs and blasting drums. In this world, many people are forced into a religion, and in some places incarcerated or killed for lack of or different beliefs. This song explains the fact that no god can save you from this vicious world and that all will die eventually. You can reach toward the sky to your god until there is nothing left to reach for. There are plenty of surprises left on the album that will have you listening to it on repeat. It is an adventure if you play it from start to finish, and it almost feels like an epic novel. For now, enjoy this single, and get ready for May 15th!”
Produced by Machine Head guitarist Logan Mader (Gojira, Septicflesh), “Path To Immortality” – which features cover artwork by Par Olofsson (Exodus, Immortal, Revocation) – will be released tomorrow, May 15. The album can still be pre-ordered on CD and limited-edition green splatter vinyl at smarturl.com/VOR. Digital pre-orders include three instant downloads – the previously released “I Am God” (video), “Carved Out” (video) and “The Undoing” (video), all of which are available for streaming on Spotify, Apple Music and other digital platforms.
In any other year, VOICES OF RUIN would be looking forward to celebrating the album’s launch by performing a record release show – probably at Malone’s in Santa Ana, the same venue in which they host the annual Ruinfest festival celebrating the California extreme metal scene. (Previous headliners have included Fallujah, Exmortus, Pessimist and Letum Ascensus.) With live performances in the state currently on hold, the band will instead host a “virtual release party” for “Path To Immortality” this Saturday, May 16, where they will stream new songs, talk in depth about the album’s writing and recording process and take part in a question-and-answer session. VOICES OF RUIN – who describe their sound as an epically-crafted blend of classic heavy metal and modern death metal that also pays homage to the traditional Scandinavian melodic death metal sound – have performed extensively in support of their two self-released albums, 2010’s “Into Oblivion” and 2015’s “Born From The Dark.” In addition to winning the U.S. Wacken Metal Battle in 2018 – when they bested dozens of unsigned groups to earn the chance to perform at the world’s largest annual heavy metal festival – the group has toured Europe with Internal Bleeding and Sacrificial Slaughter; supported Vader across North America on the 2017 “Strike Of The Empire” tour; played in Japan alongside Vader and Hate; and performed extensively in Southern California alongside a number of notable acts, including Morbid Angel, Trivium, Devildriver, Dark Tranquillity, Amorphis, Cattle Decapitation, Dying Fetus and Origin.
