Voivod “Post Society”
Century Media records

At the end of 80’s they were one of the first who extended the boundaries of metal music, showing how various can it be and completely changed its image. Nowadays, Canadians Voivod are showing how thrash can be masterpiece. The new album will be out soon, in the end of this year. For now their EP Post Society fills the pause in anticipation.

For all 33 years of band’s existence, Voivod music was completely different by its special, bright, fresh and completely individual sound. It’s always easy to recognize it. This time, the band also didn’t betrayed themselves and made great EP with their own style. It contains five new tracks (two of them are from the other splits), and it’s not only playing a role of “aperitif” before new longplay, but also introduces the new bassist – Dominique “Rocky” Laroche

The first, title song “Post Society” is smashing with that one specific Voivod drive, for which fans are ready for everything. It’s so complete, that it seems impossible to distinguish something more or less memorable – Denis “Snake” Bélanger’s vocals, drums of permanent Michel “Away” Langevin, excellent guitars of Daniel “Chewy” Mongrain or the work of mentioned Laroche.

There are many surprises in “Forever Mountain” – interesting fragments for fans and listeners, and lyrics, of course.

“Fall” continues with the mood from previous song, immersing in ambiance that can be hardly described – the riffs, the vocals and the energy. A little bit old-school, and new at the same time. And of course final solo,  something extraordinary.

“We Are Connected” can be enjoyed for 7:26, which wants to stretch more. It makes any listener’s feelings stronger, adding some anger and then make some “restart”. Uniquely catchy.

Last but not least is Hawkwind’s “Silver Machine” cover, and it’s real great.

Post Society teases in earnest. It satisfies the thirst for the good and really interesting music, which stays for a long time in the heart and play-list. But also you can’t wait for entree – an expected LP.
