Please introduce yourself.

Metal band from Kyiv, Ukraine, that mixes in its music classical power metal elements with Ukrainian folk melodies.

When your band was created?

Band exists since July 2008.

What the style do you play?

Folk-power metal (in early years we introduced ourselves as power metal with folk influences, because at that time we didn’t have folk female vocals and violin).

How could you describe your music by several words?

Speedy ethnic metal frenzy

What is the main theme of your lyrics?

We sing about different things – those can be some myths, legends, nature and traditions.

What would you like to achieve with the band activity?

We would like to share the result of our inspiration with people and hope that at least some of them will change for better

How many gigs you have played so far and maybe you visit another countries with concerts?

11 gigs in total. Just 1 gig abroad – in Belarus

Is there anything very important about your band what SHOULD know fans and labels?

Important thing about us is that we sing our songs in our native language – Ukrainian. It is not a problem for us to sing in English. However, the music we play and ideas we spread would sound a little bit silly when singing in English or any other language. However, we never say never and in the future we may switch to English.

What the formats you would like to see your releases, CD, Vinyl, Tape…? And how do you see future of physical releases?

Although CD is almost dead (and in Ukraine it never even grew up from childhood), we consider it as the main physical media for our releases. Of course more attention should be applied to digital releases, as the entertainment business changes fast. I think CD will be holding its ground for some 5-10 more years until it will be completely replaced by other kinds of media.

When you will get label deal, would you like to help to the label with promotion from your side, or you want label do all without your help?

I think everybody involved in this business should do his best for mutual benefit. So both band and label need to coordinate their activities and do everything what is required for success.

What’s your reaction towards negative opinions about your music?

Listeners have to listen, critics have to criticize, but musicians have to play music. We have never discussed neither positive nor negative opinions on our music. We just listened/read them and either took them into account or not.

And last question, how do you like our webzine, do you have some remarks towards its look or functionality?

Everything is looking nice as well as the content is nice. Maybe only the counter at the bottom left does not seem to be in its place.

“KRAAMOLA” (based on Ukrainian “крамола”) – “rebellion, riot”. The title perfectly describes the loud, saturated, no-nonsense musical style of the band. The music combines the neck-breaking speed of power metal, the punch of old-school heavy metal, and the unique rhythms and melodies of Ukrainian folk music, leaving no one indifferent!
KRAAMOLA was founded in 2008 by its two guitarists, Anatoliy Zinevych and Serhiy Kondrov. Their goal – to create a true fusion of European power metal and Ukrainian ethnic music. Throughout their long musical careers, they did not encounter a band with the right balance, and decided to create their own.
By 2011, Zinevych and Kondrov gather a team of musicians to record an ambitious debut EP, “Kraamola”. The diverse work ranges from more traditional metal offerings to odd-time signature songs styled after Western Ukrainian folk tunes and even a cover of the famous Cossack March.
Driven by the increased need and relevance of the folk component, the band recruits additional members – a folk singer as well as a violinist. After brief festival tour (“Pidkamin” in Ukraine and “Metal Crowd” in Belarus), KRAAMOLA begins work on a LP album. Despite the increasingly heated political situation and the active civic position of the band, the work continues until the release of “На зламі епох” (“At the Turn of Epochs”) in late 2014.
Today, KRAAMOLA is a unique, unparalleled project determined to bring a breath of fresh air to the Ukrainian and European metal community. The gang is back from the well-deserved break and already working on new material and live appearances in Ukraine and beyond!
