Near “Own Sun”
De Tenebrarum Principio

So welcome again in Italy. To boot in region this isn’t very popular amongst tourists. Hell knows why that’s like that coz it has many to offer on every field – historical, cultural… It means Trento or Trient (both Italian and German names are using coz of history of this region of Italy – by the way, it became Italian already in 1918).  Exactly from there come three guys who, of course, hide under stage pseudonyms such as: F. Polninus, Fredrik and Ferghus. Well, it can be even real names of musicians. I know that they don’t sound Italian, but when we’ll pay attention on historic context…

Anyway, we’re here to talk about music and only music!!! So let’s leave these surely fascinating themes like historical or cultural differences and similarities between Trentino-Alto Adige and rest of Italy. Well, when I saw cover-art I thought: “Again Black Art”. Actually I thought that I’ll hear here more influences or even directly Ambient. And after intro my hunches became even writ large. But this time I was a little surprised after first bars after the intro. This is pure Black Metal. Guys don’t smatter with some devices or elaborate epic compositions which result in nothing. They just create dark climate. I said “climate” intentionally coz they play often in slow tempos. Of course from time to time they tear, but in general this music can lead you more to depression than to neurosis. The fact is that for somebody who like “relishes” in music NEAR’s output will be just boring. As I already said devices here are rather poor. Riffs we can count on fingers of one hand, they’re very easy, drums play quite monotonous, vocal is typical harsh. But hey, this is fuckin’ Black Metal!!! Besides all this absolutely doesn’t mean that our heroes present poor technical abilities or something. Sometimes that’s even more difficult to play such “primitive” music than something what is technically advanced as hell (especially if somebody has 14 years of experience in playing).

OH, before I’ll end this review I have to write few words about lyrics.  As we all know they always was, are and will be very important in Black Metal. So it’s essential to tell that they talk about legends and nature. As I know life (and history) these legends is more Celtic than Etruscan. Anyway, fans pf Black Art should do everything to get this album! Well, previous and other releases of the band!
