On August, 5-th Swedish death metalers Paganizer released their tenth full length album ‘Land of Weeping Souls’.
For those who don’t know about this band (though as for me, they are totally underrated), here some info about them. So, Paganizer was founded in 1998, and beside ten full length albums, they recorded and released countless number of EPs and splits with other bands. By the way, last year they released four EPs: ‘The Portal’, ‘As Sanity Dies’, ‘On The Outskirts Of Hades’, ‘Sherdil’ and a split with new German band Skinned Alive ‘Bred by Demons/Human Landfill’. In a word, this band has a huge amount of creativity and energy.
For now the band’s line-up (renewed in a couple of years) is: Kjetil Lynghaug (guitars), Martin Klasén (bass), Matthias Fiebig (drums) and Rogga Johansson (vocals, guitars). Few words that I must to say about Rogga: looking at the list of bands, where this man play, it can be told that Rogga is total musical maniac. A restless death metal machine, that works in a day and in a night.
But let’s get back to an album. ‘Land of Weeping Souls’ contains ten songs, each one of them is a great example of real old school death metal, as it should be. Ferocity and brutality here in every note. Rogga’s vocals are raw, aggressive, but also legible. Guitar riffs are typical for death metal, but sometimes guitarists are going thrash. Rhythm-section doing its job great: high tempo, blast beats, double pedal – all what you need for this kind of music. And all this brutal brilliance flavored with awesome meaty sound.
35 minutes of an album are passing insensibly. The songs aren’t turn to a one long track, but make an album a bunch of ferrous evil and hate. So when the last song “Prey To Death” is over, you have only one chose: to press “repeat”.
Death metal genre is great by that fact, that bands don’t need to reinvent something new and surprise fans with experiments. In a ‘Land of Weeping Souls’ there is nothing new also, but Paganizer did not set such tusk to themselves. They just do their job, and it turns out they do it excellent – an old school death metal as it should be. Nothing more, nothing less.
