Well, shalom dear friends and metal family! How was this hot summer for you? Maybe you’ve seen some gigs? I think they slowly come back after two-years-break. So, on August 14th we were at Metal Rise Gig Lviv and it was hot as hell. But that’s what we like, I’m not lying! Such a pity we were late but I was working and can’t really postpone it, even if I want it deadly. Where was I? Ah, the gig.
We missed the first set from our fellow countrymen Meltide but the next day I did my duties and listened to them at home. I understand, it’s not the same as to see them live but that was maximum I could do. I really liked them and will come to their next concert for sure without being late. As it said, what can’t be done tomorrow, can be done the day after.
Next band, Hyoscyamus, was also from Lviv. At first I couldn’t get what’s going on because singing was by keyboardist and then by bassist at a time, so it wasn’t clear if they don’t have vocalist at all or just can’t cope with vocals. However, it was much simpler: I’ve listened to this band for a first time and didn’t know this is a female front band. Their vocalist was sick and couldn’t come to the gig but these guys still performed (there is no Ukrainian band that steps back from the planned!), solving this task creatively. That’s the spirit! That’s my Ukrainian guys that never give up! Oh, one more thing: the bassist wore such skinny pants; I really can’t realize how he could put it on. When I asked him about it after the gig, he promised me a master class of putting it on, so, guys, next time you should fulfill your promises. But the most interesting thing is this was their female vocalist’s pants! That’s why I calling you again: ladies and gentlemen, go to the local bands’ gigs, support them because they already have one pants for two people! But if we cut the crap and talk seriously, these guys are doing great and shouldn’t stop! Almost forgot: in the middle of the set one bass string broke but as I said, they are quite experienced band so played all songs properly!
The next band was Triumfate from Ternopil and I really loved them. It was a great show with slamming and everything, so I thought if this is how hell looks like, I have no problem to get there. These guys were made for the scene and looked really well.
Arhat from Kyiv was a “privileged” band for us in a way because our friend plays there. Nevertheless, it was the first time I’ve seen them and I was impressed with their energy. Everybody was slamming, moshing and even made a “wall of death” (no broken noses, arms or legs). Beside their own songs the band played some Slayer covers so the crowd was sing along too. And of course people didn’t want Arhat to leave the stage so the band did encore with pleasure – it was 100% show with some bonuses. We’ll wait for your next gig and I’ve heard the rumors this will happen very soon, so check up the updates. By the way, next day we walked around Lviv with Arhat and it was good long walking. We even visited the church (but it’s not a sure thing).
However, this wasn’t the end of the evening because there was one more band from Lviv – Pusca. I haven’t heard about them before (shit happens) but now I have a strong feeling that I see this band literally everywhere. Frankly speaking, Post-Black Metal isn’t my cup of tea but that’s only my opinion, isn’t it? Anyway, their performance was… Let’s say “outstanding” and as I know now all their performances are visually diverse. That’s something you should see.
Conclusions, ladies and gentlemen: such gigs are like fresh air for people that were in lockdown for almost two years. Yeah, like a drop of rain in the desert. That’s what we are and that’s what such gigs mean for us. Get out, leave your apartments and come see live shows! There is a good music and good vibes! Support your local bands. Support Ukrainian bands!
