Please introduce yourself.
We’re Desert Dance, a Hard N’Heavy band created in São Paulo/Brazil in the beginning of 2014. Experienced from previous bands that include Electric Age and B.I.T.E, we gather our references from names like Loudness, Judas Priest, Ratt, Triumph, Yngwie Malmsteen, to start the songwriting process. The result was the EP “Open Secrets”, recorded at Mr.Som Studio in São Paulo with musician and producer De Grigo (Paradise Inc., Oitoo, Electric Age, among others). It was mixed by Henrique Baboom (Jeff Scott Soto, Sioux 66, Panzer, The Mission, among others) and mastered by Alessandro Kabral at Wstf studios, in São Paulo/Brazil.
When your band was created?
February, 2014.
What the style do you play?
Hard Rock/Heavy Metal.
How could you describe your music by several words?
For us – Junior Rodrigues (vocals), Lizzy Louiz (guitars), Leonardo Xavier (bass) and Nico The Boss (drums) – if the music tended to Hard Rock or if it would take us to Heavy Metal, hardly mattered.
What is the main theme of your lyrics?
The name Desert Dance came from our fascination with the mystery of the optical delusions of the mirages and the extreme situations that man can face in nature. At the highest point of dehydration a battered person pass through serious clinical impairments until stress and tension bring shock, the “desert dance”. We like to write about mysteries, nightlife, debauchery, delusions and freedom.
What would you like to achieve with the band activity?
Play and have a solid career. We’ll never give up trying to spread our sound to play around the world. We don’t believe people didn’t dig Hard Rock anymore and we’ll show it.
How many gigs you have played so far and maybe you visit another countries with concerts?
As we’re a new band, we didn’t do a proper tour yet. We started to play after the release of our first EP, “Open Secrets”, in June, 2014, and we’re actually on the road, playing in São Paulo State.
Is there anything very important about your band what SHOULD know fans and labels?
We’re getting a great response of our EP around the world and receiving good reviews, including renown Hard Rock media like Metal Sludge (USA), Sleaze Roxx (CAN), Shock! Magazine (HUN) and the local Media in Brazil. We won a battle of bands in November, the “Boss-Manifesto Rock Fest”. Besides this, singer Junior Rodrigues and drummer Nico The Boss played with their previous band, Electric Age, in the “Monsters Of Rock” festival 2013, in the same day as Whitesnake, Dokken, Ratt and Aerosmith, and was nominated as one of the only Latin America bands to fight for a spot in the European festival “Sweden Rock Festival 2014”.
What the formats you would like to see your releases, CD, Vinyl, Tape…? And how do you see future of physical releases?
We’re seeing all the changes in the music business. We should have to sell digital music, of course, but we don’t think that physical releases are dead. The market for collectors is getting hotter and a new generation is starting to collect vinyl. All formats are valid, but the band has to be sure to get the right fan – and Metal/Hard Rock fans stills bought CDs and vinyl.
When you will get label deal, would you like to help to the label with promotion from your side, or you want label do all without your help?
Teams have to work together, because no one is successful alone. So, yes, for us a band needs to help the label with promotion.
What’s your reaction towards negative opinions about your music?
Speak badly but talk about us! When you launch your stuff to the world you must be prepared for criticism and negative opinions. Some of them can be valid, helping a band to grow.
And last question, how do you like our webzine, do you have some remarks towards its look or functionality?
We just need to congratulate all of you for this achievement. We know it is not easy, but you’re trying to help and spread the word about Metal!
