How did the myth of SARAJAH begin? What moment marked the true birth of the band?
J.H. founded the band in the early 2010s and recorded the first demo. After that there were many quiet years. In the early 2020s vocalist Magus and drummer H. Wizzard joined the band. Bassist Jeff joined the band just before the recording of the first album. That’s when the band took its true form.

What was the initial spark or idea that led to the creation of your debut album ‘Sarajah’?
Some of the songs on the album are old and some are new. It took many years to make the album, but eventually we got enough material together. The album took shape several times. We are satisfied with how the album came to life in the studio.

What was the most surprising or magical moment during your live studio recordings?
The album was mainly recorded live. Drums, guitar and bass were recorded at the same time. The album indeed has a live feel. The recordings went smoothly. Perhaps that was the most surprising thing.

What is it about Nordic mythology and nature that resonates so deeply with your music?
Over the years Northern mythology has been important on several albums we have been working on. Perhaps daily life in the middle of the forests has influenced our music.

How do your other musical projects influence the creative synergy within SARAJAH?
Other projects go very much hand in hand. The themes have often been linked to each other.

How does album artwork reflect the story and emotions within your music?
The cover fits well with the album’s theme. There are especially a couple of songs on the album that venture on dangerous northern waters. “Journeys of Willem Barentsz” tells the story of a pioneering explorer who got stuck in the ice. The title track of the album also navigates the same waters.

What has been the most touching or memorable feedback you’ve received from fans so far?
We have received good feedback so far! Most listeners, of course, are very familiar with our influences. We play in the vein of the old masters.

How has the Finnish metal scene shaped SARAJAH’s identity and sound?
There are many bands in Finland and metal music has been very popular for a long time. Locally we know each other well. This is important in organizing events.

Can you share a specific Norse myth that inspired a song on your album?
The album has several songs inspired by northern mythology. “Home of Arktos” talks about nature as the most important god. The same theme continues with “A Year with Us.” The title track of the album tells the tale of a a great mythical sea in the north.

Which song on the album holds the deepest personal significance for you, and why?
The album has several old songs that have been played many times over the years. Perhaps they have the greatest personal value.

What exciting plans or projects are on the horizon for SARAJAH after this album release?
At the moment we are looking for gigs. Our music works best live. It has been great to see the album released and to see the result of our work.
Thanks for the interview and check out the album on whatever format or platform you choose!
