On No Symmetry… Only Dissolution, New York’s False Gods come out of the gate burning hot and refuse to let up until they are finished. A high energy romp through a sound that is very much their own, this is one that should be a treat to any fan of the heavier arts.
With a sound that combines hardcore with sludge and a bit of melodic metal thrown in for good measure, False Gods bring something new to the table. Crafting a unique sound is no small task in this day and age, and this group has managed to not only find that sound, but follow through on it with excellent song writing and a solid understanding of the psychology of putting together a high caliber album.
Guitar work is particularly fun on this album with its acrobatic ability to shift between styles at a moments notice. Hardcore mayhem gives way to light, airy bits with ease, and shifts into gloomy doom riffs just as effortlessly. Drumming keeps up with the high demands set by this type of constantly shifting production.
Vocally, this False Gods simply has exactly what I’m looking for. There is a crisp air to the delivery and the singer enunciated expertly. While leaning mostly to a hardcore style, there is still plenty of variation to the delivery.
I have to give this one a big thumbs up. At this very moment it has everything I’m looking for musically. There’s a lot of aggression, a lot of sorrow, and a lot of technical skill on display here. Please give this one a listen. I don’t think you’ll regret it.
