Lucifer’s Chalice “The Pact”

Hailing from the Durham in the North East of England (sort of just below Newcastle if your geography is poor), this is Lucifer’s Chalice. A band that mix up NWOBHM with Doom and (I think) a liking for The Salem Witch Trials.

It’s a mixture of witchcraft and Doom, clean vocals and a gloomy backdrop… sort of Witchfinder General and Pagan Altar territory, but with a better sound.

And although this the debut release for the band, they have a decent bit of history, including working with the likes of Evo from Warfare, which is on drummer Kat’s resume. As is the likes of Morstice and Winds of Genoicide.

It’s a very solid debut that could lead to greater things. Although I think the band may need to add a little bit of variety into their future endeavours, including Charlie Wesley’s vocals. I love his voice, but he needs to add a few tricks to his repertoire.

Honestly, I really like what they’ve done here, but while that’s fine for 4 tracks, 8 tracks might be a little too much for the same style. But what they need to do, I’m not really sure, bar throwing in a shorter track or two. I like the sound and the style, it just needs to be mixed up a bit… like they do on Full Moon Nights, which has an urgent NWOBHM section in the middle, which is underpinned by some decent bass noodling.

So massive amounts of potential, with just a bit of fine tuning required… in my humble opinion.
