PAROXSIHZEM “Abyss of Excruciating Vexes”
Hellthrasher Productions

The band was formed in Toronto by two guys: Impugnor 8guit, bass & backing voc) and Krag (voc) year 2007.  When they finally found right drummer in person of Frog the first demo, ‘Aesthetic Torture’, was recorded. Then there were some changes in line-up, but they didn’t disturb in creativity’s process. That’s why in 2010 guys released second demo entitled just ‘Paroxsihzem’, two years later full-length with the same title, split ‘Warpit of Coiling Atrocities’ with another band from ‘The Queen City’ ADVERSARIAL and of course just reviewing stuff. Firstly it was released in 2016 as 12” vinyl and edition was limited to 250 copies.  Some time ago came out tape with this stuff.

Our Canadian brothers describe their music using only three words: Black/Death Metal. And I have to say that this is exactly what I’d say if somebody would force me somehow to using some term here.  Anyways, this term (as all others) is rather broad and that’s why I’ll precise in next lines what we have to do with in the case of PAROXSIHZEM. Guys play in totally uncompromising way – brutal and forward as we use to say in Poland! However, if you think that this is something mindless where the only motto is “let’s play as fast as we can” then you’re very wrong! Of course in prima facie it can sound like that.  Riffs are of course brutal, broken and short. Drums very sometimes even very fast… But the truth is that music of Toronto’s residents is very technical. It’s enough to listen to the music with at least minimal concentration and then you’ll notice that these brutal, broken and short riffs change very often. You’ll also hear some technical tricks and notice that Abyss’ beating is really variable. He uses cymbals satisfactorily (in my, probably morbid, opinion), too. Vocal can be connoted with Death Metal as well. And I mean this more brutal kind of Death Metal here.

Generally if I’d have to compare this band to some more well-known one then it’d be group founded in 1991in Baltimore. I don’t mean music coz this isn’t very similar. Both bands surely play extreme Metal, but… I mean much more this, I’d call it, love to technic playing. ‘Abyss of Excruciating Vexes’ is good stuff and the only shortcoming here is that it takes only 24.32. But there’s always possibility to listen to it roundly, don’t you?!?
