Whore of Bethlehem- Extinguish The Light
Making noise that would make Christ cry is Whore of Bethlehem, and rising from the ashes with them is their newest offering Extinguish the Light. This new release follows in the footsteps of their debut full length in 2014, in that this new release provides you with nothing but hate filled racket to snap your neck to. Extinguish the Ligh is pumped with eight brand new tracks that are blistering, hellish, damning and devoid of all light (of course) providing you with a demonic and soul melting listen. The only “break” in the action within this release is the little interlude half way through titled “Possession”. Other than that, from front to back, this release lays the hammer down and casts you to oblivion.
Whore of Bethlehem certainly don’t let you off easy with this record as they start you off with a blistering pace and keep that pace going until the very last note has been played. From the very get go you become surrounded by a vortex of hate, hell fire and pure damnation. From the first track on you get grabbed by the throat and viciously beaten by the maelstrom of blackened soul peeling death that Whore of Bethlehem provides you. These Texas based heathens don’t pull any punches what so ever on this record and they certainly don’t stop until everyone and everything is beyond dead. What you get within Extinguish the Light is nothing but unfiltered, raw and pummeling blackened death that do their best to let your blood from your veins.
Extinguish the Light is menacing to say the least and sounds as though it has had the pleasure of being soaked in the souls of the tortured for some time before being converted to disc. This relentless attack is just that, relentless. Whore of Bethlehem don’t stop for anyone or anything and their only mission seems to exterminate anyone they can and bring heaven crashing down. Each track is forceful and something to be reckoned with and from the first note on you get hacked and slashed at until the record is finally over.
This terrorizing monstrosity is a record that will please the gnarled ears of a lot of death metal fans and perhaps some black metal fans as well. The mixture of both death and black metal is seamless and Whore of Bethlehem utilize both unique genres to create an overall sound that is truly sinister and monstrous. Overall, Extinguish the Light is a solid death metal release. There isn’t any fluff and there isn’t any bullshit that can be found. This is a straight forward bludgeoning.
