The Mystery Of The Bulgarian Voices (feat. Lisa Gerrard) “Pora Sotunda” Single
Prophecy Productions

There’s quite a back story to this, which I’ll try and condense as this release is just a 2 track 7” single

The Mystery Of The Bulgarian Voices gained prominence after being discovered in the UK via a mix of 4AD Records and Peter Murphy of Bauhaus. This was in the 1980s, but their music dates back 60 years. So fast forwarding through winning Grammy’s and having their music sent up to space, we arrive at this single, which features one of my favourite singers, Lisa Gerrard of Dead Can Dance fame, as well as a stack of soundtracks (such as Gladiator, Black Hawk Down, Whale Rider etc…)

If you’re a fan of Lisa Gerrard, you’ll know that she’s Australian, but grew up being influenced by Mediterranean music

So throw all of that into the mix, with a female a cappella choir, that although Bulgarian, wouldn’t seem out of place up in the mountains of South America, or the plains of Africa, to these ears at least.

Lisa Gerrard has perfected the ethnic tones that make her voice sound so unique, so add to that a lush sound that Enigma would be proud of, and you have an amazing 2 track sampler of a new album that’s due in 2018.

The more narrow minded Metalheads won’t touch this with a barge pole, but as I have a huge range of tastes (I basically like quality music, whatever the genre), I absolutely love it.

If you enjoy anything from Gregorian Chant, to Dead Can Dance, then this should appeal immensely
