An interview with Outlaw, vocalist of the Swedish Black/Thrash metal band, IXXI.
Hi Outlaw, how are you?
Hi Carla, I’m just fine. But busy finalizing our tour plan for our eastern europe in November.
When IXXI was founded?
IXXI was founded in 2006 by Acerbus of Ondskapt and Nattdal aka B from Lifelover with the ambition to write music where riffs and styles of black metal could be brother then what they do in their other bands.
Last release was last year entitled ”Skulls n Dust”. What can you tell me about it?
Well, we recorded it in Sunlight Studio together with the legend himself, Tomas Skogsberg. It was an honor and privilege to work with him. His studio is in the country side where you get time to relax and focus and what you are there for. It was also the first album released by Osmose Productions, so I guess everything was new for the band, different line-up, different studio, different record-label and so on. We where very pleased with the result though and the album got very good reviews.
Who mainly write the lyrics?
On the first 3 albums the former vocalist Zavrosh wrote most of the lyrics with contributions from Acerbus, perhaps Nattdal also participated in some of the lyrical works as well, I’m not sure. For ”Skulls n Dust’’ I have written most of the lyrics, some songs did I write together with Acerbus.
Are you preparing for new materials soon?
We have some new material but it’s not our focus and priority at the moment. For now we are trying perform live as much as possible.
What are the band’s influences?
Ouf, that is a tough question… I guess we all have our different influences but I would not say that is something we think of when we write music/lyrics. We write what comes to us.
Are there any shows confirmed for this year?
It’s not very much left of this year but we have a eastern europe tour with nine dates in the end of november with last show at the November to Dismember festival in Bucharest. After that we are doing a quite new festival in Sweden called Black Christmas with bands like Mayhem, Marduk, Venom, Vader and Destruction, I’m sure it will be a blast!
