After hearing Untervoids’ new miniLP I decided to ask for an interview. Konrad graced us with his time and here are the results:

Who created the artwork for your album cover, it’s awesome?

Thank you! Our cover is the photography made by British artist Alan Doyle – The Trumpeting Angel of Chernobyl. It’s really dark and disturbing – perfectly matches the content of our mini album.

Do you prefer to have your music collection digital download or physical?

Both. I like physical copies and buy them and I use streaming platforms, too. It’s really handy in my daily job which is mostly focused on guitar playing and teaching music.

What was the best gig you’ve been to?

Nick Cave last year, was one of the best I’ve ever seen.

What bands / music have been your biggest inspirations?

A lot. Guns n’ Roses and Queen were the biggest in my early ages. Then times came for Steve Vai and Yngwie Malmsteen and 90’s Black metal – Burzum, Thorns, Mayhem.  I listen to a lot of different styles of music like rock, blues, electronic – inspiration is everywhere.

What is your all-time favourite movie?

It’s hard to choose just one so I’ll pick up three: Blade Runner, Apocalypse Now and 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Do you have plans to release a full album soon?

Yes, definitely. If we are ready we’ll record it before the end of this year. Spring of the next year sounds probably as a release date.

Could you include any tour dates and places for 2018?

Not yet, but we have some first propositions. As soon as we know anything for sure, we’ll post it on our websites.

Your house is about to be washed away in a flood and you can only grab 3 things, what are they?

My cats, tortoises and the laptop for sure.

What are your top 5 albums of all time?

Burzum – Hvis Lyset Tar Oss,  Thorns – debut album, Marilyn Manson – Antichrist Superstar, Guns n’ Roses – Appetite for Destruction, Mayhem – Grand Declaration of War.

What does ‘Untervoid’ mean?

Untervoid is the combination of words in two languages. Intentionally it has a lot of meanings, different for everybody. It’s a state of mind, call it the feeling of cosmic emptiness, emotional debris or loneliness. Whatever that pushes you into darkness.

What is your favourite quote and by who?

“We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars” – Mark Twain.

What instruments set up do you use? (Guitar, pedals, amp)

I play Ibanez guitars exclusively. I plug them into Orange amplifiers and some pedals like Dunlop Cry Baby, Ibanez TS-9, AD mini and lastly Boss MS-3 controller/multi-effect, which is an amazing piece of gear. I also use line 6 wireless.

How would you sum up this MiniLP? Any message that Untervoid is trying to convey?

Untervoid’s mini music-wise is some kind of a statement that we want to develop on our full album. There is a message, there is always one, but I want to speak through our music and lyrics, not giving the answers on a tray. This is something to find out for our listeners.

Thank you for the interview!
