Aghast! “Something Else; Something Rotten”
Abducted Records
Well, this title describes what happens on this EP. But instead of “something rotting” there should be “something twisted”… heheheheeh… I was never big fan of English’s creativity (as music like that in general), but I know that they always played a little strange. But this time it’s not “a little”, it’s very!!! I didn’t count, but I think that at least an half of this EP has nothing to do with not only Progressive Death Metal, but with Metal in general. I hear some disco or hell knows how to call it, maybe electronic?!? Nevermind how it calls, but it’s not for my nerves and I’ll write anything more about this!!! But I’ll try to concentrate myself only on guitar, drums, bass and vocal – at least first of all on them.
Guitar, of course where it is coz there’re whole long parties where we can’t hear this instrument, play very broken, technical and fast riffs, Of course it happens not all the time. Sometimes we can hear some melodic ones, too. From time to time also live drummer comes with his playing which’s also mostly at least twisted and surely technical as well. Tempos are in general rather fast, even if they change quite often. We have something like (let’s call it) mini-ballad in “Something Else” where all instruments (including vocal) are very slow and calm. But it takes maybe fifteen seconds or something like that… heheheheeh… Vocal in these Metal songs is very core in my opinion – James scream in right this way and sometimes does it even a little hysteric. Of course in mentioned slow parties of “Something Else” he sings with clean voice. In these remixes or how I could call it he sings in more “metallic” way – I suppose that he was needing help of technic in studio to manage do it. But maybe I’m wrong?!? Bass is the same as guitar – in meaning that it’s a little (or a little more) twisted and technical.
So, to sum it up, we have here 8 songs what for me means that it’s not EP, but regular album. Well, I know that times since I was beginning listen to Metal changed, but EP is EP and it’s from its nature short – maximum four songs… Anyway, four of them I can count as Metal ones. They’re not what I like the most in this music, but good enough to listen to them from time to time.
