Inferna Profundus Records

An hidden gem from the underground, the second album from the Lituanian band of Luctus. Coming from the Eastern Europe to spread the black verb of metal, this bunch of demons let our ears bleeding but gratified for the listening of ‘Stotis’.

Started like a traditional black metal band, Luctus evolved their sound in something more personal and fascinating. The scandinavian heritage marries black’n’roll, thrash and crust for an exciting work that everyone who love black metal will appreciate.

Formed in the far 2001, Luctus from Kaunas released the first album in 2009, ‘Jaučiant pabaiga arti’, a good album, but they made a step forward with this second work.

‘Stotis’ (station in lithuanian) begins with ‘Nežiūrėk, nežibėk’, a groundbreaking fast song that unites the different souls of the band, merging thrash metal with crushing black metal. Something that remembers and ideal fusion between Carpathian Fores and Urgehal; the album goes on, following this exciting line, that slow down on the long tracks in the middle ‘Mirusių žvaigždžių šviesoj’ and ‘Monotoniškas juodmetalis’, but it never get bored, thanks to high technical skills of the guitarists Satras and Blakkula and the voice of Luctus, the mastermind of the group.
The vocal lines are one of the strong point of the album: not the usual and flat screaming, but a voice more expressive, various and sometimes almost clean.

The title track and ‘Pakaruokliška vienatvė’, close the album in a perfect way: something of almost epic and disturbing grows in our mind, already shocked for the wild headbanging of the previous songs.

The sound is clear and powerful, thanks to a great production that enhance the bass lines, a real exception for the black metal world.

What can say about the lyrics? Not much, sorry, lithuanian is not my speciality; we have to trust the band, who tell us that they speak about war and patriottism.

In conclusion a great album, that shows personality, technical skills and the ability of creating kick ass songs. Good job, guys.
